I absolutely loved this. The Umpire Strikes Back is an enemies to lovers single dad romance that tells the story of minor league baseball player Ripley “Riptide” Johnson and umpire Kai Carter.
Kali Carter is an umpire for the minor league team in Starlight Bay and is a coach for the local rec center’s children’s baseball team. Smart, dedicated, and beautiful, she takes both jobs very seriously. Kai also is not afraid to make calls that upsets the player involved thus creating a few tense moments from pitcher Ripley Johnson.
Ripley Johnson is a pitcher who has put his dreams of a career in the majors aside so he can raise his daughter, alone. Being a dad of a spunky six year old takes up whatever time he has outside of his career. For personal reasons, he pretty much swore off relationships. That is until he becomes captivated with his daughter’s coach.
The Umpire Strikes Back had me from the very first page. Great characters and a storyline that just captured my heart. I love single dad romances. Baseball, a hot single dad, and the woman who captures his heart as well as his daughter’s is the perfect setup for this must read.
